A Belated Tribute To St Helens On Her 36th Anniversary

Once again family health issues have over ridden my intentions of keeping this blog updated every day. Since its obvious that the past seismic activity is not really relevant more than 2 days after the fact so I am only going to post a tribute to St Helens which I really want to do and do a seismic synopsis for the 20-21 of May.  This poem was written by me right after St Helens major eruption. When things really impact my life I usually write a poem to remember. This may not mean much to anyone else but to me, it was a tribute to a lady..

I wrote in on May 20th the copyright was on May 22nd 1980. 

Mt St Helens 

St Helens is a mountain

In Southern Washington

And without declaring war

The battle she has won 

She raised her head in fury

And earthquakes did abound

And smoke and mud were everywhere

And ash fell to the ground 

The forest lands were laid out flat

And man and beast were dead

On May 18^th in “80”

Mt St Helen’s reared her head

She’d slept since 1857

And finally she awoke

The people laughed at her before

And she did not like the joke 

She’s napping now or so they say

Perhaps she’s had her fun

And man and beast must both agree

The battle she has won

The rivers changed their course for her

The trees laid down in flame

And the world will n’er forget

The lovely ladies name

So sleep again our lady fair

And soothe your wounded pride

Let snowfall cool your gentle slopes

And your turmoil deep inside

We’ll not forget your awesome wrath

When you awoke that day

And found your sister’s still asleep

When you desired play

We watch you now in fear and fright

Both man and beast lie dead

When you awoke on May 18^th

And reared your fiery head
